Amritsar: Australia-based NRI missing case cracked: Brother arrested for murder, body recovered

PTC Web Desk: In a major breakthrough, the Amritsar Rural Police have solved the mysterious disappearance case of Australia-based NRI and mathematics teacher Sunil Sharma, who had been missing since May. The police have recovered his body and arrested the accused, including his own brother, who has emerged as the prime suspect in the murder case.

Sunil Sharma, a resident of Melbourne, Australia, had arrived in Amritsar to oversee renovation work at his property located in Ashiana Estate on Fatehgarh Churian Road. He was last seen on May 22, after which he suddenly went missing along with his car. His mobile phone remained switched off, raising concerns among his family members in Australia.

The case gained widespread attention after Sharma's family approached the media and expressed fears that he may have been kidnapped. His daughter, Surabhi Sharma, had revealed that she last spoke to her father on May 22 and had been unable to contact him since then.

Suspicion had also fallen on Sharma's brother, who reportedly disappeared around the same time. The victim's children had publicly voiced doubts about their uncle's role in the case, urging the police to conduct a thorough investigation.

Following an extensive probe, the Amritsar Rural Police uncovered evidence pointing towards a family dispute and allegedly found the involvement of Sharma's brother in the crime. The police have now arrested the accused and recovered the victim's body, bringing a tragic end to the search that lasted for more than two weeks.

The case had also drawn international attention, with the Australian authorities, including the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Australian Embassy in India, and Interpol, remaining in touch with the family during the investigation.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Rural) is scheduled to address a press conference at 3:30 pm to disclose further details regarding the motive behind the murder and the circumstances leading to the arrest of the accused.
