BSF shoots dead Pakistani intruder in Tarn Taran while foiling heroin smuggling bid

PTC Web Desk:  Security forces along the India–Pakistan border in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district foiled a cross-border drug smuggling attempt late Monday night, killing an unidentified Pakistani intruder who was allegedly trying to smuggle heroin into India.

According to officials, the incident took place in the border area of Khemkaran between the Kaliyan and Noorwala border outposts. Personnel of the 142nd Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) spotted suspicious movement near International Border and challenged the intruders.

When the suspects ignored repeated warnings, BSF troops opened fire, resulting in the death of one Pakistani smuggler. However, some other suspected smugglers reportedly managed to escape back across the border amid the exchange of fire.

Security forces later recovered some suspicious items from the spot, though officials have not yet disclosed full details of the seizure.

A team from the Valtoha police station reached the location and registered a case. The body of the intruder has been taken into custody and sent to Civil Hospital Patti for a post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, teams from the BSF and local police have launched a joint investigation into the incident.

Authorities say incidents of heroin smuggling from across the border have been increasing, with traffickers increasingly using drones and other methods to send narcotics into Indian territory.
