Election Commission of India summons Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav in connection with FIRs against Akali workers
PTC News Desk: The Election Commission of India has summoned Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav on November 25 after the complaints submitted by Shiromani Akali Dal. The DGP has been directed to appear in Delhi office.
The action has been taken after SAD submitted complaints over FIRs against its workers during Tarn Taran by election campaign.
The summons follows the commission’s review of a report submitted by the DGP on November 13, a day before the bypoll results were declared.
The issue was raised by Shiromani Akali Dal after nine FIRs were registered and subsequent arrest of four workers while six were named in the cases.
The FIRs were registered in Tarn Taran, Amritsar, Moga, and Batala.
Earlier Punjab police had submitted a report to the ECI justifying the actions of former Tarn Taran SSP Ravjot Kaur Grewal, who was suspended by the poll body on November 8.
