Entire Phagwara CIA unit held for accepting Rs 2.5 lakh bribe to release alleged smuggler
PTC Web Desk: In a significant development that has sent shockwaves through the Punjab Police force, the entire Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) team of Phagwara has been arrested on corruption charges. The arrested personnel include CIA In-charge Bisman Singh Mahi, Assistant Sub-Inspectors Nirmal Kumar and Jaswinder Singh, and Constable Jagroop Singh.
It is learnt the arrests were made early Friday morning after the officials were allegedly caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 2.5 lakh. The bribe was reportedly taken in exchange for the release of a known smuggler, identified as Hani, who had been in their custody.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Jalandhar Range, Naveen Singla, confirmed the arrests, adding that corruption would not be tolerated within the police department.
The detained officials will undergo medical examination and are expected to be presented before the Judicial Magistrate in Phagwara for further legal proceedings. The investigation is ongoing.
