Faridkot murder case: Gurvinder Singh died due to asphyxiation as his wife and her lover strangled him after poison failed
PTC Web Desk: In a dramatic twist to the murder of a Faridkot man, the police have found that the victim was strangled to death by his wife and her boyfriend after their initial attempt to poison him failed. The revelations came to light following the post-mortem report, which confirmed that the victim, Gurvinder Singh, died due to asphyxiation.
According to the police, Gurvinder’s wife, Roopinder Kaur, first tried to kill him by giving him poison. When it did not show the expected effect, she allegedly held Gurvinder’s hands while her lover, Harkanwal strangled him. The police said the victim struggled and attempted to free himself, but the earlier dose of poison had weakened him, leaving him unable to resist.
The post-mortem examination also revealed 10 to 12 injury marks on Gurvinder’s body, indicating he was beaten before the fatal assault.
Following the murder at Sukhan Wala village, Harkanwal reportedly fled to Chandigarh with his friend Vishwadeep, a resident of Dabwali. From there, he planned to escape to Mumbai. But when he learned that the police had reached his home and detained his father for questioning, he surrendered before a local court. Vishwadeep told the police he had no knowledge of the murder and was only aware of a “fight” between the couple. He admitted to disposing of Gurvinder’s shirt along the way, believing it was linked to the altercation.
Police officials said Roopinder initially tried to mislead the investigation by fabricating a story of robbery and spreading household items to mimic a break-in. However, they noticed that although clothes were scattered on the floor, their folds were still intact and only specific drawers were open, raising immediate suspicion.
Forensic examination of Roopinder’s mobile phone revealed that she had been viewing crime-related web series.
The police say the murder was carefully planned by Roopinder and her boyfriend. Further investigation is ongoing.
