Father-daughter duo crushed to death after truck hit their bike on Zirakpur-Patiala highway, driver absconding
PTC News Desk: A father-daughter duo were crushed to death by a speeding truck at the Chhat light point on the Zirakpur-Patiala highway. The deceased Ramesh Chand, 40, and Sumita, 24, an MBA student, both residents of Vasant Vihar in Dera Bassi were on their way to her examination.
The accident was so severe that both man and her daughter died on the spot. Soon after the accident, a team of police officials reached the spot and took the bodies into their custody.
An FIR has been registered against the driver, who fled the spot after the accident.
According to the complainant Chamel Singh, the accident took place at Chhat Light Point- a black spot often known for fatal mishaps, when the man on his way to drop his daughter at a private college in Banur when a speeding truck, bearing UP number plate hit their bike from behind and killing them on the spot.
According to reports, 40-year-old Ramesh Chand from Dera Bassi had a daughter, Sumita, who was pursuing MBA from a college in Banur. Her exam was scheduled for Monday. Family members said that the father on her way to drop his daughter at the Chhat village bus stande from where she was supposed to board a bus.
Around 1:20 pm, when they reached Chhat Light Point and began to turn towards the village, a speeding truck coming from behind rammed into their motorcycle. The impact caused both of them to fall on the road and they were seriously injured. The victim’s brother, Chamel Singh, confirmed that Ramesh Chand had planned to go to Chandigarh after dropping Sumita off.
Immediately after the accident, the truck driver fled the scene. Upon receiving the information, the road safety team arrived and rushed the injured to the government hospital in Dera Bassi, where doctors declared both dead. Police have registered a case and efforts are underway to nab the absconding driver.
