When gang rivalry turned personal: Who is Jaggu Bhagwanpuria whose mother was shot dead in Batala ?
PTC News Desk: Punjab has witnessed a sharp increase in gang rivalries with alleged allegiance of prominent faces. However these rivalry took an ugly turn when it turned personal for the very first time with a gang killing the mother of rival gang member.
Jaggu Bhagwanpuris's mother was shot dead in Punjab's Batala by unknown bike-borne assailants. Davinder Bambiha gang has claimed responsibility for the attack, a rival gang of Bhagwanpuria. Another person Karanveer also died in the shooting.
Who is Jaggu Bhagwanpuria ?
Jagdeep Singh alias Jaggu Bhagwanpuria is a notorious gangster hailing from Gurdaspur with over 100 cases registered to his name. He is currently incarcerated in Assam's high security jail in Silchar. He is a known rival of the Davinder Bambiha Group and has been linked to the 2022 murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala.
Once a renowned Kabaddi player, Jaggu Bhagwanpuria is now Punjab's one of the most influential and feared gangster who has approximately 128 cases linked to his name including murder, extortion, arms smuggling and drug trafficking.
Infamously known as Punjab's 'extortion king', his criminal network has been spanned across Pakistan and Canada with several investments made from the crime money in businesses abroad.
In 2025, the NCB shifted him from Bathinda to a high-security Assam jail under the NDPS Act, citing threats from rival gang leader Lawrence Bishnoi.
Once close allies, Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar distanced themselves from Jaggu Bhagwanpuria after accusing him of leaking info on Sidhu Moosewala’s shooters, leading to their police encounter.
