PTC News Desk: A Winnipeg man convicted of arson and firing a weapon at the B.C. home of Indo-Canadian pop star AP Dhillon last year has been sentenced to six years in prison.

The RCMP in a press release said in a news release Abjeet Kingra is associated with India-based Bishnoi gang and a judge concluded that the attack on Dhillon’s Vancouver Island home last year was not isolated.

The Bishnoi gang, originating in India, has been tied to several violent crime investigations across Canada and was officially designated as a terrorist organization by the federal government this week.

According to the RCMP, Kingra was sentenced in Victoria provincial court on Friday for recklessly and intentionally firing a gun. He received a six-year prison term, with four and a half years left after credit for time already served.

He was also given a concurrent two-year sentence for arson.

Police reported that no one was hurt in the September 2, 2024 shooting in Colwood, B.C., which coincided with two vehicles being set on fire at Dhillon’s property.

Kingra was arrested in Ontario last October, while authorities are still searching for another suspect, 24-year-old Vikram Sharma, who is believed to have escaped to India.
