PTC Web Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Jalandhar, Punjab, today to mark the 649th birth anniversary of Guru Ravidas. He will pay respects at the largest Ravidasia Dera, Sachkhand Ballan, where he will meet saints and devotees.

PM Modi is expected to arrive at Jalandhar’s Adampur Airport at 3.45 pm, where the Punjab BJP leadership will receive him. From the airport, he will travel by helicopter to Dera Sachkhand Ballan, located on the Pathankot National Highway, and is expected to stay there for approximately 40 minutes. During his visit, he will partake in the langar and interact with the local community.

On this occasion, PM Modi will announce two major initiatives for Punjab. First, the Adampur Airport in Jalandhar will be renamed Sri Guru Ravidas Ji Airport. Second, he will virtually inaugurate the newly constructed terminal at Halwara Airport in Ludhiana, aimed at boosting regional trade and industry.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is also expected to attend the visit. Senior BJP leaders, including former MLA KD Bhandari, confirmed that they will accompany the Prime Minister from the airport to the Dera.

At the Dera, PM Modi will extend greetings to Punjabis on Guru Ravidas Jayanti and convey the saint’s message of equality and brotherhood. He will meet saints privately, including a 10-minute one-on-one meeting with Sant Niranjan Das. The Prime Minister will also engage with selected members of the community, with around 100 representatives invited to meet him.

Following the religious ceremonies, PM Modi will hold a meeting with senior Punjab BJP leaders to discuss social and political issues in the state, including law and order, farmer concerns and party strategies ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.

Several local leaders have put forward their demands during this visit. CM Bhagwant Mann requested the renaming of Adampur Airport, although the decision had already been finalised by the Central Government. Cabinet minister Mohinder Bhagat urged the release of Rs 9,000 crore from the Rural Development Fund (RDF) and relief for flood-affected areas. Opposition leaders, including Partap Singh Bajwa, Amrinder Singh Raja Warring and Sukhbir Singh Badal  called for trade, economic, and farmer support measures.

Security arrangements are extensive, with over 500 Punjab Police personnel deployed along the route from Adampur Airport to Jalandhar, including rooftop surveillance and civil dress officers, ensuring the Prime Minister’s visit proceeds without incident.
