Punjab: 10 students hospitalised after having dinner at Gurdaspur Meritorious School hostel
PTC Web Desk: At least eight to 10 students of Meritorious School in Gurdaspur were hospitalised after their health deteriorated suddenly late Sunday evening, allegedly after consuming dinner at the school hostel. The students complained of severe abdominal pain and vomiting, following which they were rushed to the Civil Hospital, Gurdaspur, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
According to available information, the incident occurred around 8.30 pm, when hostel residents began reporting symptoms of discomfort shortly after dinner. School staff immediately shifted the affected students to the hospital for medical attention.
Doctors at the Civil Hospital said all necessary medical tests are being conducted to determine the exact cause of the illness. While food poisoning has not yet been confirmed, medical teams are closely monitoring the students. Hospital authorities added that the condition of all students is stable.
Meanwhile, the incident has triggered concern among parents, who have raised questions over the quality of food served at the school hostel. Several parents alleged that they had earlier lodged complaints regarding unhygienic and substandard food, but no corrective action was taken. Parents from Gurdaspur rushed to the hospital upon learning about their children’s condition.
Responding to the allegations, the school principal said that students are served clean and hygienic food on campus and that the illness appeared to be sudden. The principal added that he was on medical leave at the time of the incident but reached the hospital immediately after being informed. He also stated that the students were in pain when brought to the hospital, but their condition has since improved.
Hospital officials said the exact cause will be clear only after test reports are received. Authorities have assured that the situation is under control and students remain under observation.
