Punjab: Bomb threat to private schools in Jalandhar, police evacuate campuses
PTC Web Desk: Panic gripped parts of Jalandhar on Monday after several private schools received bomb threat messages, prompting swift action by the police to evacuate students and staff as a precautionary measure.
According to officials, the school authorities alerted the police immediately after receiving the threat. Following this, campuses including St Joseph’s Convent School and KMV School were evacuated without delay. A heavy police presence was deployed at the locations, and thorough search operations were launched to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Parents who rushed to the schools to pick up their children said they had received messages from the school management citing repair work as the reason for early dismissal. They added that no further details were shared with them at that time.
Addressing the media, ACP Sanjay Kumar (SP North) said the police received information from school authorities about a threatening email sent in the morning, warning that the school would be blown up. “As a safety measure, the school was immediately evacuated and security checks were carried out,” he said, adding that the situation was under control.
Officials also noted that a similar series of threat calls had been reported earlier in Amritsar, which later turned out to be hoaxes. Investigations are underway to trace the source of the threat, while security agencies remain on alert.
Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur and Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Aggarwal said the email was being examined by the cyber cell.
