Reportedly, when a group of farmers reached there to ‘shut operations’ at Chollang toll plaza near Tanda of Hoshiarpur, the situation escalated. Despite of large police force deployed at the spot and several efforts made to calm both the sides, a violent scuffle broke out between toll plaza employees and KMSC farmers. To get the situation under control police deployed at the spot had to resort to Lathicharge. According to the sources, some of the employees working at the toll plaza were also detained by the Punjab police.

On being asked about the clash, Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee members told media that it is not the toll plaza employees who are opposing them but are few disguised anti-social elements trying to rebuke their peaceful protest.

Chollang toll plaza was made free by the farmers as a part of their strategy to intensify their protest. It is said that toll plaza employees had already warned farmers that this time they will not let them shut operation at toll plaza as their jobs are stake.
