Punjab: Farmers in Faridkot fined for resorting to stubble burning
Faridkot, November 4: The Agriculture Department has imposed fines on farmers for engaging in stubble burning in Wada Daraka village of Faridkot. Last Friday, farmers in Wada Daraka village resorted to stubble burning. Upon receiving this information, officials from the Punjab Agricultural Department promptly arrived at the scene and took necessary action.
Kiranjeet Gill, an officer from the Agriculture Department in Faridkot, said, "When we visited the field on Friday, a farmer had set a fire on the Muktsar-Kotkapura road in Wada Daraka village near Kotkapura, leading to significant smoke emission and posing a potential traffic hazard."
Gill said both district administration and government were taking the matter seriously and actively pursuing actions against those responsible for stubble burning.
In a related development, officials from the Agriculture Department in Moga district of Punjab reported that 321 farmers in the district were found to be involved in stubble burning. Jaswinder Singh Barad, an Agriculture Department official, said, "We have received data regarding 321 farmers who engaged in stubble burning. We have conducted field visits for 205 of these farmers, prepared their reports, and submitted them to the higher authorities. Soon, reports for the remaining farmers will also be prepared after field assessments."
