Punjab: Massive explosion on railway line in Sirhind, 600-metre stretch damaged ; no casualties reported
PTC News Desk: A powerful explosion was reported on a railway track in Sirhind, Fatehgarh Sahib district of Punjab, just 48 hours before Republic Day. The explosion damaged the engine of a freight train, inflicting serious injuries to the driver.
The preliminary investigation suggests that unidentified individuals detonated an explosive. The authorities have not confirmed the nature of the material used.
As the freight train engine reached near the Khanpur railway gates, a sudden and powerful explosion occurred. The impact was so intense that nearly 12 feet of the railway track was completely blown away. The tracks and sleepers were shattered into pieces.
Addressing the media, Ropar Range DIG Nanak Singh said that information about the explosion was received on Friday night, following which multiple teams were dispatched to the site to begin the investigation.
The train driver was injured in the blast and was taken to a hospital for first aid. The incident triggered panic in the area, and railway officials were immediately informed. Railway teams reached the spot the same night and carried out repair work on the damaged track.
Police officials reached the site and confirmed the explosion, however the exact reasons and details about the type of explosion remains under scanner.
An investigation into the matter has been launched and police are probing the incident with multiple angles.
