Punjab Police bust major heroin trafficking network linked to Pakistan; three family members arrested

PTC Web Desk:  In a significant crackdown on cross-border drug smuggling, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police have uncovered a major heroin trafficking module reportedly operated from Pakistan. The police arrested three persons belonging to the same family and recovered 3 kg 120 gram of heroin during the operation.

Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar stated that the arrests were made during routine naka checks and field surveillance in Mohkampura, Amritsar.

According to officials, the operation began when a woman, identified as Harpreet Kaur, attempted to flee after noticing police presence near Silver Stone School in Krishna Nagar. The police apprehended her and reportedly recovered six packets of heroin from her possession.

During preliminary interrogation, Harpreet Kaur revealed the identities of her accomplices — Muskan and Neeraj Sharma. Investigations confirmed that Muskan and Neeraj are siblings, while Harpreet Kaur is their sister-in-law, making it a family-run drug trafficking network.

Police Commissioner Bhullar further revealed that the drug network was being coordinated by handlers based in Pakistan, who were instructing the accused on transportation and delivery routes to avoid law enforcement surveillance. The involvement of women in the chain was reportedly a method used to evade suspicion.

Authorities said the seizure marks a major strike against heroin trafficking operations along the India-Pakistan border. Raids are underway to trace remaining members of the network and identify all links in the supply chain.

The accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is ongoing.
