Stage set for Punjab Assembly polls? SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal claims elections likely in October-November this year

Stage set for Punjab Assembly polls: Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal has alleged that Punjab Assembly Elections slated for 2027 could be held in October-November this year.

Sukhbir Singh Badal while campaigning in Nawangaon said that barely four months are left till the elections as this time the Punjab Assembly polls may be conducted three months earlier in view of the national census , which is set to begin from January 1.

"It is the Government of India’s policy that elections are not held once the census process begins. Therefore, voting is likely to take place in October-November", he said.

He further added that the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab may have only four to five months left in office.

The remarks have triggered strong rublings in the political corridors of Punjab with parties and leaders attempting political maneuvering ahead of the high-stakes battle.

Meanwhile, voting across municipal corporation and council is set to take place on tuesday May 26 with model code of conduct in place. The results for the same will be declared on May 29.
