SGPC to distribute certified wheat seeds for 37,500 acres to flood-hit Punjab farmers
PTC Web Desk: In a major relief initiative for flood-affected farmers, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has announced the distribution of high-quality wheat seeds covering 37,500 acres of farmland across Punjab. The distribution drive, costing Rs 6 crore, will begin on October 25 from Gurdwara Sri Ber Sahib, Sultanpur Lodhi.
To ensure smooth distribution, the SGPC has set up five centres at key locations: Gurdwara Sri Ber Sahib (Sultanpur Lodhi), Gurdwara Sri Baoli Sahib (Goindwal Sahib), Gurdwara Baba Buddha Ji (Ramdass), Gurdwara Patshahi 5th and 9th Guru Ka Bagh (Amritsar), and Gurdwara Sri Jamni Sahib (Bazidpur, Ferozepur). Each centre will distribute seeds for 7,500 acres of farmland.
SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said as per the decision of the committee’s executive body, small farmers owning less than 10 acres of land would be given certified seeds free of cost. He added that the initiative aims to help farmers replant their crops and recover from the extensive losses caused by the devastating floods that hit Punjab earlier this year.
Advocate Dhami further mentioned that the SGPC had earlier extended massive relief operations, including serving langar (community meals) and distributing ration supplies and thousands of litres of diesel to affected areas. The organisation also provided medical assistance in flood-affected villages.
“With the blessings of Guru Sahib, we remain committed to ensuring that no one in need feels abandoned,” said Advocate Dhami. “The SGPC will continue its services as required to help farmers rebuild their livelihoods and bring their lives back on track,” he added.
