Sidhu Moosewala documentary sparks legal row: Father Balkaur Singh to move court to halt screening
PTC Web Desk: A fresh controversy has erupted over the proposed screening of a documentary based on late Punjabi singer Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as Sidhu Moosewala. The documentary, titled “Investigative Documentary on Sidhu Moosewala,” is scheduled for screening on June 11 in Juhu, Mumbai. However, Moosewala’s father, Balkaur Singh, has opposed the screening and is set to file a petition in the Mansa court seeking a legal stay on its broadcast.
Balkaur Singh alleges that the film contains unauthorised, sensitive, and previously unpublished content. According to him, the documentary includes private testimonies and references to an ongoing criminal investigation related to Moosewala's murder. He contends that its release could disturb public order, interfere with the judicial process, and violate the family’s legal rights, privacy, and the dignity of the deceased.
The controversy intensified after Balkaur Singh issued a legal notice to the broadcaster and lodged a formal complaint with the Maharashtra Police. He also sent a reminder demanding the screening be halted immediately. Meanwhile, the documentary's production team has sought 10 days to respond to the legal notice.
Sources close to the family confirmed that Balkaur Singh completed all legal formalities on Sunday and will submit the court petition. He has requested that the documentary’s premiere be postponed or cancelled until a proper legal response is received.
