Sohana Kabaddi Cup firing: Gangster Dony Bal claims responsibility, SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal slams AAP over collapsing law and order

PTC News Desk: Hours after Kabaddi promoter and coach Rana Balachauria was shot dead by unknown assailants during a live Kabaddi tournament, gangster Dony Bal claimed responsibility for the attack, according to a Facebook postunder name Gopi Ghanshyampuria. However PTC News does not independently verify the post.

"I, Donibal, Saganpreet, Mohabbat Randhawa, Amar Khabe, Prabh Daswal and Kaushal Chaudhary, take responsibility for the killing of Rana Balachauria during the Kabaddi Cup in Mohali today. This man (Rana) was in contact with our rivals Jaggu and Lawrence," the post read.

It further added, "He had provided shelter to the killer of Sidhu Moosewala and personally looked after him. By killing Rana today, we have avenged the murder of our brother Sidhu Moosewala. This act was carried out by our brothers Makhan Amritsar and Defaulter Karan.”

Balachauria was shot in head at point blank range after the attackers managed to reach close to him by posing fans seeking selfies. The assailants reportedly fired 12 rounds before fleeing, triggering chaos at the ground in Sector 82 where the tournament was being held.  He was immediately rushed to Fortis Hospital in critical condition where he was declared brought dead.

“We are deeply saddened to confirm that Mr. Kanwar Digvijay Singh, a 30-year-old Kabaddi player, was brought to Fortis Hospital Mohali at 6:05 PM on 15th December 2025 with gunshot injuries. Despite immediate clinical assessment, he was declared brought dead," official medical statement read.

Opposition slams AAP government

Meanwhile opposition has launched scathing attack on AAP government over deteriorating law and order in the state.

Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal held AAP government for the brutal killing of Rana Blachauria and slammed Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for failing to prevent such incidents and worsening state's law and order situation.

SAD chief spokesperson Arshdeep Singh Kler accused the AAP government of enforcing politically-motivated directives instead of maintaining law and order. He also demanded thorough investigation in this as well as earlier murder cases in which Kabaddi players were killed.

"The shooting incident has once again shaken Punjab. Under state's poor governance, the criminal elements do not hesitate before firing shots in the middle of an ongoing match and amid a large crowd. It reflects the incompetence of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann that murders, extortion cases and many other terror-related incidents are occurring almost daily in Punjab, while the police, instead of maintaining law and order, are busy enforcing politically motivated government directives," Kaler said.

PPCC chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring condemned the firing incident and asserted that AAP has surrendered to gangsters.

"Open firing at a Kabaddi tournament in Mohali, claiming the life of player Rana Balachauria, is a chilling reminder of @AAPPunjab's abject failure to maintain law & order. Bullets flying at public events are proof of governance collapse. Punjabis are being forced to live in fear," Warring's post read.
