Punjab govt brings uniformity in fees of government and private medical colleges and universities

With a view of bringing uniformity in the fee structure of all the Government and private medical colleges in the state, the Medical Education and Research Department on Tuesday made a partial modification in the earlier notification and issued a corrigendum for the same. The Medical Education and Research Minister OP Soni said that it was found that the private medical colleges and universities were taking an exorbitant fee from the students against the fee structure implemented in 2015. The Minister also said that the Adesh University was charging Rs. 16.50 lakh from students pursuing MD instead of a fixed fee of Rs 6.50 lakh per annum that put an extra financial burden on the students aspiring for medical education. Soni said that after assuming the responsibility of the department this issue came to his notice, which was totally illogical. He said that he took his personal interest in this issue concerning the future of medical students. He said that the directions were given to the department to initiate efforts to resolve this issue in the earnest by bringing uniformity in the fee structure of all the institutions as well as Government and private to bail out the students willing to go for medical education from financial burden. Also Read | Punjab govt to telecast curriculum of state-run schools on DD Punjabi The Medical Education and Research Minister said that now the fee for MD/MS ( Clinical Courses) at Dayanand Medical College Ludhiana, Christian Medical College, And Christian Medical College Ludhiana, Sri Guru Ram Dass University of Health Sciences Amritsar, Desh Bhagat University and Aadesh University Bathinda would be Rs. 6.50 lakh per annum while the entire fee of these courses in the NRI quota seat is the US $ 1.25 lakh. -PTC News
