Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann to launch government’s flagship 'Mohalla Clinics'on August 15

Chandigarh: In an attempt to fulfill another manifesto promise Bhagwant Mann today announced opening of mohalla clinics in the state. Punjab Chief Minister to launch government’s flagship Mohalla Clinics on August 15 ---75 such clinics to be made operational in first phase to mark 75th Independence anniversary. Taking part in the deliberations, the Chief Minister also gave nod to convert the non-functional Sewa Kendras across the state into Mohalla Clinics thereby refurbishing such complexes on the uniform pattern with basic interior components including doctor’s room, reception-cum-waiting area, pharmacy, besides separate toilets for staff and visiting patients. He also directed the Principal Secretary, Public Works, to work out the modalities for sprucing-up the interiors of Sewa Kendras, so that these could be suitably converted into Mohalla Clinics. Taking to the twitter chief minister Punjab said, "Held important meeting with health officials ... We are going to build Mohalla Clinic in Punjab on Delhi pattern ...We will also fulfill our promise to provide quality and free treatment to the people of Punjab and make Punjab's health services exemplary throughout the country." The work on drawings for the necessary modification of these centres is going on. During the SAD-BJP government over 2,100 Sewa Kendras had been set up in Punjab, of these only 500 are functional. A senior health functionary said these kendras already had the facility of Internet and air conditioning, so they could be utilised without much effort. During the previous Congress government, the department had used the closed Sewa Kendras in rural areas to establish health and wellness centres too. Initially, the government was planning to procure the industrial containers on the lines of Delhi to establish the mohalla clinics but it finally decided to use the available infrastructure first .
