Barnala youth, fed up of 'corruption', consumes poisonous substance at police station, blames cops, patwari in video
PTC News Desk: A youth consumed a poisonous substance at the Dhanaula police station on Thursday while accusing some police officers of subjecting him to harassment and demanding money from him in exchange of registering a complaint regarding his car.
In a 3.04 minute video, Joban Singh, son of former sarpanch Baljinder Singh Pappu of Bhathlan village, said that his car had caught fire around 17 days ago and that he had been making repeated rounds of the police station to get the daily diary report (DDR) registered to initiate proceedings for an insurance claim.
In a video, Joban alleged that a police munshi, whom he identified as Pamma, accused him of deliberately setting a vehicle on fire and allegedly demanded money from him on several occasions.

He also claimed that a daily diary report (DDR) was registered after members of the village panchayat intervened. Joban blamed Dhanaula police station’s additional SHO, Sub-Inspector Manjeet Singh, for allegedly pushing him to take the extreme step.
"Bhagwant Mann's constituency is Dhuri, where our village Balian is located. He claims to have ended corruption, but the patwari took Rs 5 lakh in corruption," alleged Joban in the video.
While speaking in the video, Joban also accused patwari Gurwinder Singh in connection with a land dispute involving his family in Balian village under Dhuri subdivision of Sangrur district.
Joban said he was fed up with the alleged harassment and consumed pesticide.
Later, another young man, claiming to be Joban’s brother, posted a video alleging that the SHO left the police station after the incident. He also claimed that the SHO snatched his phone and that police personnel shut the main gate of the station.
Barnala SSP Mohammad Sarfaraz Alam said the youth was stable and undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Barnala.
The SSP said Joban had raised two complaints involving two police personnel and a patwari. Police are verifying the allegations and will take appropriate action based on the findings.
SSP Alam also clarified that Sub-Inspector Manjeet Singh is currently serving as the additional SHO at Dhanaula police station.
