Delhi LG Taranjit Singh Sandhu launches Rs 1.46-lakh limited-edition Golden Temple book, urges publishers to cut price
PTC Web Desk: Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Sunday launched a limited-edition picture book showcasing the Golden Temple, Amritsar, and its spiritual significance.
Titled ‘Golden Temple: An Oasis of Spirituality’, the book has been created by photographer Tarun Chopra after years of work documenting the iconic Sikh shrine at different times of the day. The book has been published by Speaking Tiger.
Speaking at the launch, Sandhu praised the effort behind the project but suggested that the publishers consider reducing its price so that more people can afford to own it. The limited-edition book is priced at more than Rs 1.46 lakh, with only 1,000 copies available.
“This is a great book that brings the Golden Temple closer to the people,” Sandhu said, while urging the author and publisher to make it more affordable.
Chopra explained that the price reflects the time and effort involved in creating the book. He said the project took several years and allowed him to photograph the Golden Temple across different hours and changing light conditions.
Sandhu recalls family connection with Golden Temple
During the event, Sandhu also spoke about his family's connection with the Golden Temple. He recalled that his grandfather, Teja Singh Samundri, is the only ordinary Sikh to have an SGPC hall named in his memory within the Golden Temple complex.
The Golden Temple, officially known as Sri Harmandir Sahib, attracts devotees from across India and around the world. The shrine and its sacred Sarovar hold a central place in Sikh religious and cultural life.
Sandhu also highlighted the significance of the shrine's four entrances, which are open in all four directions.
According to him, the four doors represent the Sikh belief that spirituality and the divine are open to everyone, without discrimination based on caste, religion or creed.
He also referred to the Sikh principle of ‘Sarbat da Bhala’, which calls for the welfare and well-being of all.
