Harsimrat Kaur Badal writes to Amit Shah, demands CBI probe into Parvinder Jhota's killing

PTC News Desk: Shiromani Akali Dal MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and demanded a CBI investigation into the killing of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota.

In a letter addressed to Shah, SAD MP said that a high-level independent and impartial investigation by a central agency is required into the case in order to unravel the influential people be it the drug inspectors, police officials or top-ranking politicians.

'A CBI probe is necessary to expose all the perpetrators behind Jhota’s murder,' Harsimrat Kaur Badal said in her letter.

Harsimrat Kaur Badal in her letter also underscored the negligence of Punjab Police in the case despite getting prior information about the sale of drugs at a designated spot.

'Despite being informed by Parvinder Singh, the police did not reach there following which the latter started streaming the case of sale of psychotropic drugs by the medical store owner - Ashwini Kumar. Following this Ashwini shot and killed Parvinder Jhota and injured two others after talking to someone on the phone,' she said.

Adding further, Badal also said that following the killing of Jhota, a formal complaint by his father was also submitted to the police highlighting how his son was a victim to the politician - police - drug mafia nexus behind the drug trade in Punjab and how this nexus was receiving patronage from the very top, including Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

She further claimed that according to Jhota's father in his statement also levelled serious allegations against the Mansa SSP of threatening him in jail if he continued to raise his voice against drugs.

'Bhim Singh also mentioned in his statement that police officers were also entrenched in the drug trade and that the Mansa DSP – Shri Sanjeev Goyal even owned medical drug manufacturing facilities which were used to produce intoxicants.'

Harsimrat Kaur Badal also highlighted the influential figures that accused Ashwani was working at the behest of and alleged police involvement in the drugs nexus running on a large scale in the state.

Taking a swipe at the CM Bhagwant Mann, she said that the AAP government is using police forces to suppress anti-drug activists including the case of Mohanjit Singh of Sunam, and the suicide of Gulzar Singh following police persecution.

'There are numerous other cases of whistle blowers being forced into silence even as drug traffickers have a field day in Punjab. Only a comprehensive probe into the entire drug racket in Punjab by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government can expose these messengers of death and provide relief to Punjabis from this scourge which is threatening to consume an entire generation,' SAD MP said in her letter.
