High Court raps Punjab govt over non-compliance of DA order, issues 10-day ultimatum
PTC News Desk: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday (September 10) reprimanded the Punjab government for failing to comply with its order in the pending Dearness Allowance (DA) dues case involving government employees.
The court directed the government to stop playing with the legal process and proceed with its appeal. During the hearing, it was pointed out that the case involves elderly people, including some as old as 95 years.
The Punjab government told the court that defects in its appeal filed before the Supreme Court were being rectified. The High Court then stressed that the process should be completed quickly and that the appeal should be taken up for hearing at the earliest.
The court gave the Punjab government 10 days to get its appeal before the Supreme Court listed for hearing.
The High Court said that if the matter is not heard by the Supreme Court within 10 days, it will proceed with the case at its own level.
The matter relates to compliance with the High Court’s August 3 order, which directed the Punjab government and the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) to pay pending DA instalments to employees and pensioners at rates applicable to the Centre.
