Samsung trolls Apple as it joins foldable phone race with iPhone Duo launch: 'Reheating the leftovers'

PTC News Desk: Samsung Mobile US used Apple’s ‘Surprise and Shine’ event to take repeated digs at the newly launched iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo on X. The posts came within minutes of Apple’s announcements and quickly gained attention, with some posts receiving more than one million impressions.

Samsung began mocking Apple even before the foldable iPhone segment of the event. It posted “So far, so same” along with the hashtag #ItsTimeToSwitch, suggesting that Apple had made only minor changes.

As Apple highlighted the iPhone 18 Pro’s camera and design upgrades, Samsung posted another jab: “It’s feeling very familiar. Is this a Sims sequel…” The post appeared to mock Apple for keeping a design similar to last year’s iPhone 17 Pro.

While Apple delayed the announcement of its first foldable phone, Samsung posted: “Making us wait? Fine. We’ll be over here, folding 3 ways.” The comment referred to Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold, which uses three panels instead of the two-panel design expected on Apple’s foldable.

‘Reheating Our Leftovers’

Samsung delivered its strongest response after Apple finally unveiled the iPhone Duo. The company posted: “Let us know when you’re done reheating our leftovers ????”

The post highlighted Samsung’s head start in the foldable phone market. Samsung launched its first Galaxy Fold in September 2019, several years before Apple introduced its first foldable iPhone.

Samsung also mocked some of the iPhone Duo’s software features. After Apple demonstrated the phone’s StandBy mode being used as a bedside clock, Samsung posted: “Not the bed side clock. It’s giving groundhog day.”

The comment suggested that Samsung viewed the feature as something familiar rather than a major new innovation.
