Jalandhar bandh call today over desecration of Ambedkar statue: Markets, banks to remain closed for seven hours

PTC News Desk: The Dalit community has called for a bandh in Jalandhar on Thursday to protest against alleged desecration of Dr BR Ambedkar's statue. The bandh was announced by Rajiva Gora, president of the Bhagwan Valmiki Shakti Kranti Sena Punjab, and Gaurav Valmiki, president of the Bhim Kranti Sena.

Gora said all markets, roadside vendors, government offices and banks in the city would be closed from 9 am to 5 pm. He said highways would not be blocked to avoid inconvenience to the public. Medical stores and hospitals may remain open as part of emergency services. Schools and colleges will also remain open considering the ongoing examinations of students.
