The employees had earlier decided to continue their strike by taking collective leave until September 11 if their demands were not accepted. Initially, the strike had been announced only for September 8.

According to the union, after the August 27 strike, the government had issued a letter seeking action against around 2,500 employees for remaining absent from duty. The employees had been demanding that the letter be withdrawn.

On Tuesday, the government had warned the protesting employees that the “no work, no pay” rule would be enforced. It had also warned of departmental action over unauthorised absence.
