Punjabi influencer Manjeet Kaur death case: She was 7 weeks pregnant, mother alleges abortion pressure

PTC Web Desk:  A new detail has emerged in the death of Punjabi social media influencer Manjeet Kaur, who died during treatment at PGI in Chandigarh on August 26. According to her mother, Kanta Devi, Manjeet was seven weeks pregnant at the time of the incident.

The family has levelled serious allegations against a man identified as Rinku, claiming that he did not want to marry Manjeet and had allegedly asked her to terminate the pregnancy. The police are expected to question Rinku as part of the investigation and verify the allegations.

Manjeet Kaur was pregnant

Kanta Devi told the police that Rinku was unwilling to marry her daughter and had allegedly pressured her to undergo an abortion after learning about the pregnancy.

The police are likely to call Rinku for questioning to establish the nature of his relationship with Manjeet and determine whether the allegations have any connection with the circumstances surrounding her death.

Manjeet was a divorcee

Manjeet, who was a divorcee, lived in Sunny Enclave. Her mother and brother, Panchkula resident Kanta Devi, live in Sector 19.

The family has also named a woman identified as Neha, a resident of Amritsar, in its allegations. Neha, however, has denied having any knowledge of the circumstances and said she does not understand why her name was mentioned by Manjeet's mother in her statement.

Kidnapping and murder case registered

Based on the statement given by Manjeet's mother, the police have registered a case of kidnapping and murder against Shubhi, Pinda and others at Sector 34 police station.

Investigators are currently looking for the accused and examining the call records of people who were in contact with Manjeet. Sector 34 SHO Inspector Shadi Lal is investigating the case.

Family alleges brutal attack

The family has alleged that Manjeet was kidnapped by two acquaintances last month, assaulted and tied to a mulberry tree before being allegedly set on fire in Morinda, Punjab.

The family has also accused the police of failing to record Manjeet's statement in time when she regained consciousness and was allegedly willing to tell investigators what had happened.

What happened on July 3?

According to the statement given by Manjeet's mother, Shubhi and Pinda allegedly called her daughter to a liquor shop in Sector 34, Chandigarh, on July 3.

The two allegedly took her to Morinda, where she was assaulted, tied to a tree and set on fire.

A friend of Manjeet reportedly found her engulfed in flames. He tried to put out the fire using a blanket before taking her to a hospital in Morinda for treatment.

She was subsequently shifted to Max Hospital in Mohali and was later referred to PGIMER, Chandigarh, on July 9.

After undergoing treatment for several weeks, Manjeet reportedly regained consciousness on August 5.

Her family claims that she wanted to give a statement to the police after regaining consciousness. However, they allege that her statement could not be recorded because the police did not reach the hospital in time.

Manjeet died on August 26 while undergoing treatment.

Chandigarh SSP Kanwardeep Kaur said an FIR for kidnapping and murder had been registered on the basis of the complaint filed by Manjeet's mother.

The police are now searching for the accused and examining CCTV footage from the route between Sector 34 in Chandigarh and Morinda. Investigators are also collecting other evidence to reconstruct the sequence of events.

The allegations regarding Manjeet's pregnancy and the pressure allegedly put on her to terminate it will also form part of the investigation.
