Smart city Chandigarh is a heap of Broken tiles and a bundle of garbage

Smart city Chandigarh has been left to heap of broken tiles garbage and dilapidated buildings, especially the prime shopping paradise of the city, Sector 17 is in a neglected condition. While the UT Administration is planning to develop vacant areas of Sector 17 under the Smart City project, the current status of the sector presents a picture the Administration has failed to see. Neeraj Bajaj, president, Chandigarh Business Council, said only 40 per cent street lights are working in the sector and major areas remain in darkness at night. Rajinder Manocha, another trader, said the flooring of Sector 17 is broken at various places, making it difficult for people to walk. Virender Guleria, president, Progressive Trader Welfare Association, Sector 17-D, said they had been requesting the authorities concerned to take immediate steps to develop the neglected parts of the Sector, but nothing had been done. He said due to lack of facilities the shoppers don’t visit Sector 17 as much as they used to till last year. Jagdish Pal Kalra, a trader, said the increasing number of vendors was also one of the major concerns for shopkeepers. He said a ray of hope was arisen when Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore visited the area sometime ago, but nothing happened on the ground since his visit. -PTC News
