Sonali Phogat's death: SC stays demolition of Goa's Curlies restaurant

New Delhi, September 9: The Supreme Court has stayed the demolition of Curlies restaurant in Goa, which started on Friday, on the condition that no commercial activities take place there. This is the same Goa restaurant where actor and BJP leader Sonali Phogat was allegedly drugged and died. The demolition of the restaurant began after its owner received no relief from the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The NGT, on Thursday, upheld the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority's prior order to demolish the shack. The owner of the 'Curlies' restaurant on Goa's famous Anjuna beach, Edwin Nunes, was among five people arrested in the Sonali Phogat death case and was later granted conditional bail on Thursday against a personal bail bond of Rs 30,000 and two sureties of Rs 15,000 each. Phogat's PA and an associate were arrested after police obtained CCTV footage of the trio partying at a club. Sonali Phogat was allegedly drugged forcibly by two of her associates, who were arrested after being named as accused in the case. Dissatisfied with the Goa Police's investigation into Sonali Phogat's death, her family will petition the Goa High Court for an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation.
