Asia Cup 2023: Split Host Model Announced with Matches in Pakistan and Sri Lanka
Asia Cup 2023: The Asia Cup 2023 schedule has been announced, revealing a unique split host model with four matches to be held in Pakistan and the remaining nine matches taking place in Sri Lanka. The decision was confirmed by the Asian Cricket Council in an official statement.
Due to strained political relations between India and Pakistan, bilateral cricket matches between the two nations have been limited to multi-team events at neutral venues in recent years. Concerns over safety led the Indian board to decline participating in the Asia Cup scheduled for September in Pakistan.
As a result, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) offered India the option of playing their matches in the United Arab Emirates, creating a "hybrid model" for the tournament.Dates and venues have been finalised for the Asia Cup 2023! The Asia Cup 2023 will commence on August 31 and run until September 17. Six teams, namely India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Nepal, will participate in the tournament, which features a total of 13 One Day International (ODI) matches.
The teams will be divided into two groups, with the top two from each group advancing to the Super Four stage. The top two teams from the Super Four will then compete in the final on September 17.
In Group A, India, Pakistan, and Nepal will compete, while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan form Group B. The tournament promises thrilling cricket action as teams vie for the coveted Asia Cup title.
