Harbhajan Singh shows interest in Team India head coach role as BCCI seeks successor for Rahul Dravid

PTC Web Desk: Harbhajan Singh has expressed interest in becoming Team India's head coach as Rahul Dravid’s tenure nears its end after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is on the lookout for a new head coach, with Rahul Dravid not planning to reapply. The process for selecting the new coach will start from scratch.

Stephen Fleming, the current head coach of Chennai Super Kings, is the preferred candidate, but he is hesitant due to the demanding nature of the job. Other notable contenders include Justin Langer, Ricky Ponting, and Gautam Gambhir, who will need to formally apply for the position. The BCCI is considering enlisting MS Dhoni’s help to persuade Fleming to take the role.

Meanwhile, Harbhajan Singh, also known as Bhaji, has yet to decide whether to apply for the post, but is enthusiastic about the opportunity. He commented, “I haven’t decided whether to apply for it or not. The job of the coach is to manage the players. You don’t need to correct them as they already know how to play strokes or bowl doosra. However, a little bit of inputs are required to give them confidence. If given a chance, I am ready for the job as cricket has given me everything and it is time to give something back to the game,” he told ANI.
