Rajasthan Royals captain under fire: Riyan Parag faces backlash on social media over vaping in dressing room

Rajasthan Royals captain under fire: Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag came into the spotlight after several videos of him vaping inside dressing room went viral on social media during their match against Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 in New Chandigarh on Tuesday.

The incident unfolded in the 16th over of the second innings when a broadcast camera briefly captured Parag with what appears to be a vape.

The moment drew even more attention because it happened right after Riyan Parag was dismissed. He had scored 29 runs off 16 balls but couldn’t make the most of the opportunity during an important phase of the chase. Since then, the video has gone viral on social media, leading to questions about possible disciplinary action.

There isn't any particular guideline against vaping at public places however the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has strict parameters for player behaviour. The use of tobacco or related products in dressing rooms or dugouts is generally banned under health and safety protocols, putting Parag at risk of punishment.

In the match, Rajasthan Royals beat Punjab Kings by six wickets on Tuesday. Batting first, Punjab got off to a strong start with opener Prabhsimran Singh scoring 59. Later, Marcus Stoinis added quick runs at the end with an unbeaten 62 off just 22 balls, taking the team to 222 for 4.
