ICC World Cup 2023: Kiwi sensations Conway and Ravindra's explosive partnership shakes England and ignites New Zealand's hopes

ICC World Cup 2023: In the World Cup's opening match, Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra delivered a masterclass in batting, completely overshadowing England's expectations. Their explosive partnership of 273 runs, achieved in just 211 deliveries, showcased fearless stroke-play and made New Zealand a strong contender for the tournament.

Jos Buttler, England's captain, revealed they had targeted a total of 330 runs but was helpless against the aggressive onslaught of Conway and Ravindra. The Kiwis might have even chased down 400 runs on that unforgettable opening night. Both batsmen made history by scoring centuries on their World Cup debuts, forming the second-highest partnership for New Zealand in ODIs.

Conway and Ravindra, both left-handers, share a unique bond as 'outsiders' who embraced New Zealand as their home. Conway, originally from South Africa, chose to represent New Zealand due to unfair selection policies in his home country. Ravindra, with Indian roots, proudly identifies as a Kiwi.

Their partnership was built on fearless and controlled batting. Ravindra started cautiously but transitioned into an aggressive stance, hitting boundaries off England's fastest bowlers. His breathtaking half-century in just 36 balls showcased his brilliance. Ravindra later reached his century in 82 balls, allowing Conway to take the lead in the race to a hundred.

Conway capitalized on his IPL experience, playing with poise and control, much like Shubman Gill. Their partnership sent a warning to other World Cup teams, solidifying New Zealand's position as a strong contender. Ravindra, in only his 12th ODI, made a stunning debut on the world stage, while Conway did things the Con'way.
