IPL 2025 final to be held in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, BCCI confirms revised playoff schedule
PTC Web Desk: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced that the final match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will be held at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on June 3. This marks the third time in four years that the world’s largest cricket stadium will host an IPL final, having earlier done so in 2022 and 2023.
In addition to the final, Qualifier 2 will also be played at the same venue on June 1. The other two crucial playoff matches — Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator — have been relocated to Mullanpur Stadium, the home ground of the Punjab Kings, and are scheduled for May 29 and May 30, respectively.
Revised IPL 2025 playoff schedule
May 29, 2025 (Thursday), 7.30 pm– Qualifier 1 at Mullanpur
May 30, 2025 (Friday), 7.30 pm– Eliminator at Mullanpur
June 1, 2025 (Sunday), 7.30 pm– Qualifier 2 at Ahmedabad
June 3, 2025 (Tuesday), 7.30 pm– Final at Ahmedabad
The decision to shift venues was influenced primarily by weather-related concerns. The original plan included hosting two playoff matches, including the final, at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, and the remaining two in Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. However, persistent rainfall in Kolkata — which recently led to the abandonment of a match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders on May 17 — forced BCCI to reconsider.
This washed-out match proved costly for RCB, as it resulted in the defending champions being eliminated from the tournament. With rain disrupting multiple fixtures, the BCCI opted to move the high-stakes playoff games to more weather-secure venues.
The BCCI had earlier indicated the possibility of venue changes when it announced the resumption of IPL 2025 following a temporary suspension due to rising geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan. The revised format of the tournament condensed the venue list from 10 cities to 6, to better manage logistics and reduce risk.
