Sumedh Saini loses battle for bail

The arrest of former Punjab DGP Sumedh Singh Saini in the kidnapping and murder case of Balwant Singh Multani has become imminent after a Mohali court on Tuesday rejected his bail plea. Saini has now the option of moving the High Court. The public prosecutor has demanded his arrest to investigate the alleged killing of Balwant Singh Multani. The Mohali police and the Special Operations Group (SOG) had conducted a raid at Saini’s residence in Sector-20 in Chandigarh on August 29. Mohali DSP (Detective) Bikramjit Singh had led the raid while Sumedh Singh Saini was not found at home. Likewise, the court had reserved orders for a day on Thursday on Sumedh Saini’s interim bail plea. Saini and 6 other police officers were booked in a 29-year-old case of the alleged abduction of Balwant Singh Multani, son of former IAS officer Darshan Singh Multani. It is pertinent to mention that the court had added Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in the case against Sumedh Saini.
