Controversy over release of Punjabi film 'Dastaan-e-Sirhind'; SGPC raises objections
PTC Web Desk: The release of Punjabi film 'Dastaan-e-Sirhind' has once again embroiled in a controversy. Originally slated for November 3 release, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandak Committee (SGPC) has raised objections to the release.
The SGPC has expressed concerns about the use of animation in the film, particularly in its portrayal of Sahibzaade. Several Sikh organisations have voiced reservations over dialogues and scenes featuring the Sahibzaade in the movie.
This isn't the first instance of such objections. Earlier, the SGPC had raised concerns, resulting in a delay in the film's release.
The SGPC has made it clear that they have not granted permission for the film's release. According to Pratap Singh, an SGPC official in Amritsar, "The SGPC has not issued any permission for the release of the film Dastaan-e-Sirhind."
He said it was the responsibility of the film's producers to address the concerns raised by various boards regarding the film's scheduled release on November 3.
He has called on the Sikh community to remain vigilant against any false propaganda and urged the film's producers to consider the sentiments of the Sikh community when making decisions related to the movie.
He stressed, "It is worth recalling that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandak Committee had previously intervened to halt the release of films connected to Guru Sahibans, their families, and Sahibzaade through the Dharam Prachar Committee."
The SGPC had not been able to view the film due to unspecified reasons, he added
According to sources within the SGPC, Sikh organisations have been protesting against the film. This has led to an appeal to the film's producers to reconsider the release of the film.
