SYL Canal dispute: Police use water canons on protesting Congress workers in Chandigarh
Chandigarh, October 9: A protest by the Punjab Congress in Chandigarh, aimed at drawing attention to the contentious SYL canal dispute between Punjab and Haryana, was thwarted by a strong police presence in Chandigarh on Monday. The police also used water cannon to disperse the proesting Congress workers marching towards the Punjab Raj Bhawan here.
They wanted to meet Governor Banwarilal Purohit and give him a representation over the SYL issue.
Earlier, Raja Warring said Punjab would not give a single drop of its water to any other state. He lashed out at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led government in Punjab for its alleged "double standard" on the SYL issue.
ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਕਿਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣ ਦੇਵਾਂਗੇ।

The Congress has levelled allegations against the AAP government in Punjab, asserting that "it has taken a contradictory position on the SYL canal matter, failing to effectively represent Punjab's stance in the Supreme Court".
Meanwhile, concerned about potential law and order issues, the police diverted traffic from Sector 16 Chowk to PGI Chandigarh as a precautionary measure. The public has been urged to avoid this route until the situation stabilises.
