Class 7 boy tricked into giving away family jewellery worth Rs 85 lakh to momo vendors

PTC News Desk: Three youths allegedly duped a minor boy of jewellery worth ₹85 lakh after gaining his trust and offering him momo in exchange, police said on Monday.

An FIR has been registered at Rampur Karkhana police station in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria district following a complaint by the boy’s father, Vimlesh Mishra, a temple priest posted in Varanasi. According to the complaint, the accused — who run a momo stall at Dumri Chauraha on the Deoria–Kasya road — fled after taking jewellery belonging to the boy’s family.

The incident came to light when the boy’s sister asked for her jewellery. On checking the almirah, the family discovered that all the ornaments were missing. When questioned, the Class 7 student told his family that he had handed over the jewellery to the youths in return for momo.

Rampur Karkhana SHO Devendra Kumar Singh said a case has been registered and efforts are underway to trace the absconding accused. The complainant alleged that the youths befriended his son, who lives in the village for his studies, and convinced him to bring jewellery from home and give it to them. The jewellery reportedly belonged to both the boy and his sister.
