PTC Web Desk:  A dramatic video showing lightning striking the Burj Khalifa during a heavy rainstorm has gone viral on social media after it was shared by Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The Crown Prince posted the footage on Instagram with a short caption, “Dubai,” along with rain cloud and lightning emojis. The clip quickly drew widespread attention, with viewers expressing awe at the rare visual of a lightning bolt appearing to hit the world’s tallest building amid intense rainfall.

Sheikh Hamdan, who is known for sharing striking visuals of nature and city life from across the UAE, enjoys a massive social media following. Apart from serving as the Crown Prince of Dubai, he also holds the positions of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE. He was appointed Crown Prince in 2008.

The lightning strike was recorded during a spell of unstable weather affecting several parts of the country. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) had earlier issued weather warnings for heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning and hail across multiple regions.

According to the NCM, the UAE entered the peak phase of the ‘Al Bashayer’ low-pressure system on December 18, triggering widespread rain and storm activity.

Standing at 829.8 metres, the Burj Khalifa frequently becomes a focal point during severe weather conditions.
