Chandigarh: Tricity Cab Association to protest against illegal taxis outside Raj Bhavan

Chandigarh, September 26: The Tricity Cab Association (TCA) is set to stage a protest against illegal taxis on Monday.

The taxi and cab drivers will protest outside the Punjab Raj Bhavan, demanding the State Transport Authority (STA) stop unauthorised aggregators from illegally operating bike taxis and private four-wheelers. Drivers are confronted with fierce competition as a result of the influx of unlimited cars by gig platforms in the city. To make matters worse, aggregators are attaching private bikes for use on roads as commercial vehicles.

According to the Tricity Cab Association, there are around 15,000 cabs running in the Tricity. Aggregators are running taxis and private bikes illegally. Taxi drivers are required to pay a lot of taxes, get insurance, and keep a plethora of documents. The taxi and cab drivers of Tricity are facing fierce market competition due to this.
