Two Sikhs shot dead in Pakistan's Peshawar, authorities assure justice

Peshawar (Pakistan), May 15: Two persons from the Sikh community were shot dead by unidentified attackers in the Sarband area of ​​Peshawar on Sunday. The victims who have been identified as Ranjit Singh and Kuljeet Singh owned a spices shop in the Sarband area of Peshawar. Their bodies have been shifted to a nearby hospital. Following the tragic incident, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan directed the Inspector General of Police to take necessary action for the immediate arrest of those involved in the murder. He further said that the incident is highly reprehensible and tragic and the elements involved in this atrocious crime cannot escape the clutches of the law. The Chief Minister also assured to provide justice to the affected families, adding that the incident is an attempt to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere and inter-religious harmony in the city. As per the media reports, the police have cordoned off the area and a search operation has been launched to hunt the gunmen. After the news of the killing surfaced, Indian politician and chief of Shiromani Akali Dal Sukhbir Singh Badal extended his condolences. "Shocked & pained to learn about the dastardly killing of two Sikh shopkeepers -Ranjit Singh & Kuljeet Singh in Peshawar (Pakistan). Condemning the incident, I urge EAM @DrSJaishankar ji to ensure justice to the bereaved families & also to take up Sikhs' safety issue with @PakPMO," he said.

Meanwhile, the chief minister of the Indian state of Punjab, Bhagwant Mann, also condemned the killing of Sikhs in Pakistan. CM Bhagwant Mann further requested external affairs minister S. Jaishankar to discuss the matter with Pakistani authorities. "I strongly condemn the gruesome killing of two Sikh youths in Peshawar Pakistan. I also request our Foreign Minister Dr S. Jaishankar ji to speak to Pakistan to raise the concern and ensure safety of Hindu and Sikh minorities residing in Pakistan," he said.
