Bangladesh: Massive fire breaks out at Dhaka Airport's cargo section, flight operations suspended
PTC News Desk: A massive fire erupted at the cargo terminal of Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday, leading to the suspension of all flight operations.
According to officials, the blaze began near Gate 8 around 2:30 pm. Fire Service spokesperson Talha Bin Jashim told The Daily Star that 36 fire units were deployed to bring the situation under control.
The airport’s executive director, Md Masudul Hasan Masud, confirmed the incident and said emergency protocols had been activated. “All aircraft are confirmed safe. Further updates will follow as the situation evolves,” an airport spokesperson stated.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) department reported that multiple agencies — including the Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority, Fire Service, Navy, and Air Force — were involved in the firefighting efforts. Two Air Force fire units and two Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) platoons also joined the operation.
In the aftermath of the fire, all flights to and from the airport were temporarily halted, with several incoming planes diverted to Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram and Osmani International Airport in Sylhet.
