China: Metro train collision injures over 100 people, many suffer fractured bones
PTC News Desk: Hundreds of people were taken to a hospital in Beijing on Thursday after a collision between two trains on a busy metro line in snowy weather, according to CNN, citing the city's transportation administration.
The incident occurred around 7 p.m. (local time) on the Changping subway line, which extends northwest of Beijing. As many as 515 persons were taken to the hospital for examination, with 102 of them suffering severe fractures. According to the statement, no one was killed in the incident, as reported by CNN.
According to a statement issued by the Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport, the preliminary investigation found that the incident occurred owing to a signal malfunction and emergency braking due to weather circumstances.
According to the statement, one train came to an emergency stop owing to slippery snow tracks and another after colliding with it. According to the report, "One train came to an emergency stop due to slippery tracks in the snow, and another following behind crashed into it."
According to CNN, "The latter train was in a downhill section, and the snowy weather caused it to slide and failed to brake effectively, causing a rear-end collision with the one in front."
