Indian-origin nurse, Rajwinder Singh, convicted for stabbing to death Australian woman

PTC News Desk: An Indian-origin former hospital nurse was found guilty of murdering an Australian woman Toyah Cordingley, seven years after her body was found on an isolated beach in Queensland.

Cordingley's body was found by her father half buried in an isolated section of sand dunes at Wangetti Beach, about 40km north of Cairns, on October 22, 2018. Rajwinder Singh, 41, was charged in March 2023, and accused of fatally stabbing the 24-year-old.

The incident unfolded when Cordingley was walking her dog on the beach. Shortly am argument ensued when her dog started barking at Singh and enraged him. Angered by this, Singh stabbed her and buried the body in the sand. He also tied her dog to a tree. Police claimed Cordingley had died after “a personal and intimate attack”.

He had pleaded not guilty to murder at the four-week trial before Justice Lincoln Crowley in the supreme court in Cairns. However, after about seven hours of deliberation, jury reached a verdict on Monday afternoon. The verdict was pronounced nine months after Singh's first trial.

The trial in the case was to begin in 2024, but was postponed due to the delays in receiving documents.
