Hamas military chief Mohammed Deif, who was considered to be one of the masterminds behind October 7 attack on Israel, was killed, say Israel Defense Forces
Israeli military intelligence recently confirmed the death of Mohammad Deif, a top Hamas military leader, following a targeted airstrike on July 13.
The strike hit a compound in Khan Younis, which was believed to be hosting Deif and Hamas commander Rafa’a Salameh, who was also confirmed dead. Israeli jets had surveilled the location for half a day before executing the strike.

The confirmation of Deif's death comes shortly after the reported assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced Haniyeh’s death, noting he was in Tehran for a swearing-in ceremony.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised recent attacks on key figures from Hamas and Hezbollah, asserting that Israel is prepared for ongoing threats and will continue its military actions until its objectives are met. In response, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas declared a national day of mourning.
