Merry Christmas 2023: Santa and reindeer greenlit for US entry pre-Christmas
PTC News Desk: Santa Claus and his team of reindeer have received clearance to enter the United States ahead of Christmas, confirmed by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The USDA assured that the reindeer, expected to arrive pulling a wooden sleigh adorned with jingling bells and filled with vibrant gifts, have been granted a transit permit.
The USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service issued the permit to "Mr. S Nicholas Claus of the North Pole, a distributor with Gifts and Good Cheer, Inc." The move grants Santa Claus hassle-free access to fly his reindeer into the country without any legal hindrances.
Jenny Lester Moffitt, the undersecretary for marketing and regulatory programs, expressed delight in facilitating the special permit for Mr. Claus and his reindeer, recognizing their significant contribution to the holiday season's joy. "USDA is thrilled to extend this special permit, ensuring a seamless journey for the festive magic they bring each holiday," Moffitt stated in a news release. She also humorously acknowledged the pivotal role of American milk and cookies in fueling Santa's iconic journey.
Before issuing the permit, veterinary officials rigorously examined the reindeer to ensure they met all entry prerequisites. Dr. Rosemary Sifford, USDA's Chief Veterinary Officer, attested to the reindeer's health and agility, stating, "During our recent inspection, the reindeer exhibited robust health and displayed their characteristic prancing and pawing."
Despite a minor anomaly noted on Rudolph's health certificate—a distinctive red nose—USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service assured the public that this was typical for Rudolph and posed no concern. The USDA's stringent regulations aim to safeguard America's livestock population by overseeing the movement of cervids, including reindeer, ensuring that only healthy animals enter the country. Santa Claus and his team of reindeer are an iconic symbol of Christmas, embodying the spirit of holiday magic and goodwill. Their partnership remains pivotal in making Christmas deliveries a cherished reality year after year.
