PM Modi receives Egypt's highest State Honour 'Order of the Nile' Strengthening Bilateral Relations

PTC News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was bestowed with Egypt's highest state honour, the 'Order of the Nile,' by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi during a ceremony held today. The prestigious recognition signifies the strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi embarked on a visit to the iconic 11th-century al-Hakim Mosque in Egypt and paid homage at the Heliopolis Commonwealth War Cemetery in Cairo. He also engaged in fruitful discussions with President El-Sisi, who extended a warm invitation for the visit. Notably, this marks the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Egypt in over two and a half decades.

In reciprocation, President El-Sisi is scheduled to travel to India in September to participate in the G-20 Summit, where Egypt has been accorded the status of a special guest.

During his visit to the Imam al-Hakim bi Amr Allah Mosque, a magnificent architectural marvel dating back almost a millennium, PM Modi took a moment to admire the exquisite carved inscriptions adorning the walls and doorways of the mosque. Covering a vast area of 13,560 square meters, the mosque underwent significant renovation with the support of India's Dawoodi Bohra community, descendants of the Fatimids. Since 1970, the community has been actively involved in the restoration and maintenance of the mosque.

India's Ambassador to Egypt, Ajit Gupte, highlighted the Prime Minister's deep affinity towards the Bohra community, which has a longstanding presence in Gujarat, India.

The conferment of the 'Order of the Nile' upon PM Modi symbolizes the shared commitment of India and Egypt in strengthening diplomatic ties and fostering mutual cooperation across various domains. This honorable recognition further cements the bond between the two nations, paving the way for enhanced collaboration and goodwill.
