Shooting incident reported at residence of Punjabi-origin man in Calgary’s Savanna Park
PTC Web Desk: The police in Calgary are investigating a shooting incident reported in the Savanna Park neighbourhood that allegedly targeted the residence of a Punjabi-origin man, identified as Lovjeet Sandhu.
A video clip circulating on social media appears to show multiple gunshots being fired toward a house in the area. Authorities confirmed that several rounds were discharged, but have not yet provided details about possible injuries or the extent of property damage.
The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived. Investigators have cordoned off the area and launched a detailed probe, including forensic examination of the site.
Soon after the incident, a post surfaced on social media allegedly linked to an account operating under the name Aarzoo Bishnoi. The post claimed responsibility for the attack and referenced individuals purportedly associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi group, along with warnings aimed at rivals.
However, the police have urged caution regarding online claims. According to local media reports, including CBC News, officers said the investigation remains ongoing and that any connection between the shooting and the circulating social media posts has not been verified. Officials emphasised that further forensic and digital analysis is required before drawing conclusions.
Authorities also revealed that Calgary has witnessed a spike in extortion-related violence this year. Since the beginning of 2025, at least 28 such incidents have been reported, including 13 shootings. Police believe the latest firing may be linked to a broader pattern of extortion-related activity impacting members of the South Asian community in the city.
In a separate but possibly related incident over the weekend, another home in northeast Calgary was reportedly fired upon. The suspects in that case allegedly escaped in a white sedan.
The police have increased patrols in affected areas and are appealing to the public for any information that may assist the investigation.
